Membrane disinfection and sterilization technology

Product Information

Membrane disinfection and sterilization technology

Technical explanation

Filter disinfection and sterilization techniques:
If filters are stored in non-sterile water, major losses in membrane flux and efficiency may result.

Recommended sterilization/disinfection solutions for thin film membranes:
1.) 2% Sodium sulfate (stored for 1 week)
2.) 2% Sodium Bisulfite plus 20% Glycerine for long-term storage
3.) 0.5% Formaldehyde (only used after the filter has been running for at least 24 hours)
4.) Chlorine Dioxide 500 PPM
5.) Do not use: Iodine, Quaternary Germicide and Phenolic Compounds

Disinfection steps of the membrane system:
1.) Prepare an aqueous solution containing 2% of sodium bisulfite by weight.
2. Flush and fill your system with this solution.
3.) Drain as much of this solution out of your system as possible.
4.) Seal and preserve your system.
5.) Will allow bacteria-free storage for up to 1 year.

Steps for long-term storage of filters:
1.) Prepare an aqueous solution containing 21 TP2T by weight of sodium bisulfate and 201 TP2T by weight of glycerine.
2.) Soak the filter in this solution for 30 minutes.
3.) Drain the filter and seal it in a plastic bag.
4.) Will allow for up to 1 year of bacteria-free storage.
